I absolutely love decorating our front porch for the holiday season. Layering in fresh greenery and pretty details really makes your house feel like home. This past fall we stained our porch with Sico Olympic Summit Stain in chestnut and white which really freshened up our entry. However, despite that update there was one thing that still felt like it wasn’t quite right and that was our front door. Luckily my friends over at Kent Building Supplies helped me out. I was able to find the perfect front door for our home.
You can never have enough natural light. I really wanted the door to have a window to let light into our entryway. This 3/4 glass style is perfect. We went with 4 grilles and I love the way it dresses up the window but still feels minimal. One of the awesome things about ordering a door through Kent is that you can customize it however you like. I elected to have the door painted black on both the outside and the inside. This is an extra touch that I’m so glad I did!
Adding some simple bells that I spray painted brass and a pretty cream ribbon makes it the perfect finishing touch.
Once the door was installed it felt like the whole porch changed. Curb appeal is really important. Doing something as simple as swapping out your door can completely transform your homes exterior. Our new door is the perfect backdrop for porch decorating. This winter set up is one of my personal favourites.
Aside from the door being from Kent I was able to pick up these beautiful porch trees and lanterns. I love how they work for the holidays. However, you could also keep them on your porch for the entire winter season. The goal was for the entry to look simple and inviting this year. I grabbed these wooden crates and fresh greenery. The mix of textures it brings to the porch is perfect. I used simple nails to hold up the garland around the door then started with a faux garland base. Then I wrapped in real pieces of greenery throughout. Using a faux garland to start gives you volume to work with before you begin. Then you have a strong base before layering in the real pieces of greenery. It will make assembling your garland easier.
I personally find I am drawn to symmetry when decorating our home. However I do love to play with asymmetry sometimes. I styled the porch a couple of different ways. The goal was to show how you can use minimal items to get completely different looks. The same technique I used for the garland I used for the door wreath. It turned out so good! Adding some simple bells that I spray painted brass and a pretty cream ribbon makes it the perfect finishing touch.
